Port Kennedy, Perth: Bushfire emergency declared, homes and lives under threat


A bushfire is threatening lives and homes in the Rockingham suburb of Port Kennedy, in Perth’s south.

An emergency bushfire warning has been issued for an area bounded by Bakewell Drive, Ennis Avenue, San Sebastian Boulevard, and Port Kennedy Drive.

A watch and act is also current for a wider area around the fire zone.

The fire broke out near the intersection of Bakewell Drive and Paxton Way just before 9.30am AWST on Thursday, flaring up in the early afternoon as temperatures in the area climbed into the low thirties.

Fifty-five Career Fire and Rescue Service, Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service, and Volunteer Fire and Emergency Services firefighters are actively fighting the blaze, while aerial support has been sent to assist ground crews.

The fire is currently stationary, but remains out of control.
