Just moments after losing the grand final in his last game for South Sydney, Adam Reynolds conducted himself with pure class.

The Rabbitohs had a chance to snatch victory in the last 10 minutes but the star halfback made a couple of mistakes he’d rather forget.

After Alex Johnston scored in the corner, Reynolds could have levelled the scores at 14-all had he slotted the conversion, but his kick started right of the posts and didn’t hook back far enough.

Then with just a couple of minutes remaining, he attempted a two-point field goal from beyond the 40 metre mark in a last gasp effort to get the Bunnies back in the game.

But he connected poorly with his drop kick and it fell well short, snuffing out any hope South Sydney had of pulling off a comeback.

It was a heartbreaking way for Reynolds to end his career in green and red colours.

Earlier this year it was announced the Rabbitohs had let the 31-year-old go and he would be joining the Brisbane Broncos next season.

Speaking to Channel 9 straight after fulltime, Reynolds was understandably shattered he couldn’t get his team over the line.

“I felt we hung in there all night,” he said.

“Obviously, had a chance at the end there. Just didn’t come up with the result in the end. Expected to nail them (shots at goal) but just missed.

“We wanted to apply more pressure on them. Obviously they’re a quality side, they’re hard to break down and they’ve got a great defensive system. We found it tough to out of our end. “We kept fighting and fighting right to the end but they were too good tonight.”

When asked to nominate his favourite memory from his time at South Sydney, Reynolds said he would miss the fans most when he moves on from the Redfern-based club.

“I’m not too sure,” he said. “It’s probably something that I will reflect in the next couple of days.

“The one that sticks out to is the fans. They’ve been terrific the whole way through my career and they’ve been supportive since day one.

“I can’t thank them enough.”

As South Sydney captain, Reynolds also had to speak at the post-match presentation and he delivered a classy speech and another touching tribute to the Rabbitohs supporter base.

“To Ivan (Cleary) and Penrith, congratulations,” he said.

“You have been the best team probably for the last two years and well deserved tonight.

“To Wayne and the coaching staff and the players, keep your head held high lads.

“Sorry we couldn’t get the job done tonight. Gave it our all. I love every one of you.

“Lastly to all our fans and our members, I love you guys from the bottom of my heart. It has been one hell of a journey.

“Sorry we couldn’t get the result done tonight. No doubt the boys will be back again fighting harder than ever next year.”

Rabbitohs fans were full of praise for how Reynolds conducted himself and said it wouldn’t be the same watching him play for another club.

“Absolute class from Adam Reynolds all season, not one hint of unrest after the decision to let him go, and then that interview,” Fox Sports broadcaster Adam Peacock tweeted.

“Special mention to Adam Reynolds,” former Parramatta Eels prop Tim Mannah said.

“Feels so wrong that he won’t be in the red & green again. He is that club.”

AAP sports reporter Scott Bailey added: “Got to feel for Adam Reynolds.”

“I could cry seeing Adam Reynolds,” SMH sports journalist Christian Nicolussi said.

“Ah man, heart breaking for Adam Reynolds,” journalist Lisa Visentin said.

“Why are we letting him go.”
