MMA fighter Justin Thornton dies after sickening KO
The MMA world has been rocked after veteran fighter Justin Thornton died following a brutal knockout in his last fight.
Combat sports veteran Justin Thornton has tragically died after being knocked out in his last fight.
Competing in the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC) in August, the 38-year-old was felled by Dillon Cleckler and died weeks later.
“This morning we were very saddened to be notified of the passing of one of our fighters, Justin Thornton, who competed at BKFC 20 on August 20, 2021,” BKFC president Dave Feldman said.
“We join the rest of the combat sports community in sending our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.”
A GoFundMe page set up for Thornton after his fight said he suffered a spinal cord injury which resulted in him being paralysed and needing a ventilator to breathe.
The fight against Cleckler was Thornton’s first with BKFC. Prior to bare knuckle boxing, he had fought for various MMA promotions.
MMA Fighting reports during his professional career, which finished with a 6-18 win-loss record, Thornton came up against some notable fighters, including UFC heavyweights Chase Sherman and Walt Harris
